What is a Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRP) and how do I change my DRP status?
A Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRP) provides for automatic reinvestment of shareholder dividends in more shares of a company's stock, often without commissions. Some plans provide for the purchase of additional shares at a discount to market price. DRPs allow shareholders to accumulate stock over the long term using dollar cost averaging. The DRP is usually administered by the company without charges to the holder.
You can determine if a company offers DRP or change your DRP status by:
- Using the Investor Portal: if you have already registered, simply enter your username and password and click "log in". If you have not yet registered, simply click "register" and follow the prompts. Once you have logged in, click on "dividend reinvestment plans". If the "reinvestment plans" button does not appear this means that the client does not currently offer DRP.
Click on Update
Click on the DRP election you wish to participate in i.e. Full or Partial (a further field will be displayed to elect the number of shares/units you wish to partially elect) then click next
